Val Thorens - Why Should You Go to This Ski Resort?

Val Thorens is a wonderful ski resort in the French Alps. It is part of a skiing area called Les Trois Vallées. The village itself is at the height of 2300 meters, 7.500 feet, above sea level which makes it the highest ski village of Europe. The highest slope is at about 3500 meters, 11.500 feet.
One thing that makes Val Thorens so special is the altitude. The village is above the tree line, which results in beautiful panoramas at different places of the slopes and much places where you can ski outside the regular slopes. The area has all sorts of slopes, including one for slaloms and a fun park. The difficulty goes from green, which is very easy to black, which is very difficult and steep. The easy slopes are just as easy to reach as they are to ski on and there enough pistes for who is advanced so you will never be bored.
For the starters the best thing to do is practice at a little slope in front of the village which are especially for the first hours or days you are skiing (or snowboarding). After this you can go up with the ski lift Deux Lacs, which means Two Lakes, and then go right. Go straight at the first junction and then take every turn right until you return at the village. This is a green slope, so it is very easy. Of course you can also take lessons and they will tell you where to go. The blue slopes are a little more harder, but still easy. One blue slopes I very much like is the slope which is called Fond. I like it because it is not as busy as most of the other pistes and the condition of the snow is very good. You can get there by taking the ski lift Deux Lacs and then by taking the lift called Portette, and after that just following the signs.
For snowboarders this place is wonderful too. In December there is a boarder week with matches for every level and for free riders there are unlimited possibilities for off-piste slopes. Val Thorens is especially for families and young people. The après-ski is much better in this village then in other villages in France because there are many people from Britain, Scandinavia and Holland. It is also possible to para-glide or to fly around the area of Les Trois Vallées. I really enjoyed snowboarding in Val Thorens and I hope you will too if you would go there!
